Elements of a Greenhouse Gas Neutral Society

How can an industrialized society sharply cut its greenhouse gas emissions in various economic sectors? Technical solutions and their impact will be deliberated during the international conference.

We expect about 200 European and international experts and decision makers from engineering, natural and social sciences, politics, business, civil society and the media. They will come together to discuss diverse approaches and measures aimed at moving industrialized societies towards greenhouse gas neutrality.

The conference will include sessions on topics such as:

  • Components of the energy supply based on 100% renewable energy sources
  • Status quo and approaches in sectors such as transport, agriculture & food, waste & resources
  • Industrial process related emissions
  • Concepts and challenges in civil aviation and maritime transport
  • Concepts and challenges: regional to local scale

The conference will be held in English. English/German simultaneous interpretation will be provided.
Programme

The conference will be opened on Thursday, 10 October 2013 at 9.30 a.m. by Jochen Flasbarth, President of the Federal Environment Agency. On 10 October 2013 at 7 p.m., there will be a evening reception. Peter Altmaier, Federal Minister for the Environment, Germany will give a pre-dinner speech entitled “The German Energiewende – why our model can serve as a blueprint for other economies”.

On each conference day you can choose between two parallel sessions.
